It was when I was in Mintong, Arunachal Pradesh that I happened to meet Mongdap Wangpan, a Wancho girl of about eight years. She amazed me with her strong will to learn. She was in the class, with her baby brother tied close to her back as most tribal women do in those areas. She was attentive listening to all what the teacher was saying. At times when her little brother cries she comes out of the class and comforts him and makes him sleep and goes back to class again.
She belongs to a very poor family as a result the family was not able to send her to school. Moreover, both of her parents go to field for work and want her to take care of her younger brother. Fr. PJ Francis Sdb noticed her earnestness and allowed her to come to school though she did not have a set of uniform or the possibility giving her total attention to her teachers. Now she sits in the KG class with students who are much younger to her and follows the class while making sure that her little brother is not neglected at the same time.
